COURTESY OF THE ARTIST © Douglas Fischer COSMIC CONNECTION
A museum-quality artist who lives and works in the palm desert, Douglas Fischer's abstract compositions are wonders to behold. Powerful abstraction with endless depth unlike most flat canvas abstract works of the last century. Fischer is a bold colorist.
He works tirelessly to mold his masterpieces one piece at a time with conscious effort of the final color and final feeling, if you will. Deep reds, and ocean blues in which you can sink into slowly in a nice daydream. Or perhaps over a glass of wine setting the tone for both evening and day.
Don't worry if you cannot afford the original because he has plenty of signed prints available in numerous forms. Fischer's work has the subtlety and inherent nuances of the Pre-War artists coupled with the colorist theories of the abstract expressionists.
There is something more that one takes away when their eyes finally leave the canvas. Isn't that what great art is? An experience, an emotion hidden locked away for only us to see. As always, abstract art leaves the decision of the experience up to the viewer. It is within them that leaves the final mark.
That is the power of abstraction. That is why Pollock named most of his drip pieces numbers instead of phrases. However in Fischer's work, he titles each piece with an obscure title which still leaves viewers wondering. What is it all about?
Douglas Fischer is a creative force to be reckoned with and we will be hearing a lot more about this artist in the near future. He recently joined D+H Contemporary in Los Angeles and has been quite active in the art scene at large.
